Something that has been incredibly frustrating for me to deal with over the past few years is that I am NOT a morning person. For a long time I thought this meant that I couldn’t be productive or that I wouldn’t be getting “the most out of my day.” I was reading all of these books about productivity and they almost always told me that if I wanted to accomplish anything in life then I would have to become a morning person.
I would just like to say that this theory is ABSOLUTE GARBAGE.
Now this doesn’t mean that you can’t become a morning person if you want. What I am trying to get across is that the added pressure of “needing to become a morning person to be successful” can be super damaging to our self-esteem and self-image. You are not lesser than because you are not most productive in the morning.
Being productive and feeling good about yourself do go hand-in-hand. So what you need to do is to find out what works best for you. You are unique. You also need sleep. So make sure you are getting enough each night.
If after reading this and you’re still thinking that you want to push yourself to become a morning person, I say go for it. Just try not to beat yourself up too much if you can’t get it. Instead focus your energy on when you can be productive! You’ll start to feel a lot better about yourself.
